The Adventures of Tilly

So I want to write a book about my cat Tilly. She is just a normal cat but she imagines crazy adventures for herself! Let me know what you think :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLOG!

I started this blog a year ago! I can't believe it. I'm not necessarily sure how often people look at it or what kind of reach it has (besides my mom). But, it has given me a way to archive my art and incentive to create! In celebration, I'm going to post my favorite posts from each month. Enjoy! And thank you for giving me your time!

November brought us this puppy

I started experimenting with manual photography in the winter months

And then, in March, I started painting them

In April there was Argentina, and these mouths

In May, I left the lovely New York City

And then Arizona inspired these funky oils

Insta

My mom seemed baffled by the fact that people had both Facebook AND Instagram. Obviously, I'd choose Instagram. Here are some of my recent posts! Follow me on Instagram for the (mostly) daily posts.

I found three moths on our door and just thought they were so lovely!

Doodles: Pickle and Fred

So, now that I'm home for the summer and I have a lot more time on my hands I'm going to bring back the Daily Doodle series (some of which can be seen here and are now renamed "Doodles"). It gives me incentive to be creating daily (obviously). AND I need to actually start posting some of the backlogged projects from the year.

My doodle for today is an idea for an edgy children's book (maybe for adults) about Dylan (Pickle) and my cat, Tilly (Fred).

Goodbye New York City

This city has been quite the adventure. Cliche, yes, but absolutely true. I am moving back to Arizona (for the time being) and I'm going to figure out my life from there. New York is draining and painful and the good hardly outweighs the bad at most times. But, I heard that you hate New York until you leave and then you can't wait to get back. Who knows? For now though, here is my farewell to this city that has seen me grow up (and perhaps pushed me to grow up even faster than normal). As LCD Soundsystem said, New York I love you, but you're bringing me down.

To see all of my New York posts click here or on the link to the right. This post has a compliation of my favorite photos from the past four years.

UPDATE: I wrote this post before I had moved out of my apartment and was feeling a bit bitter. Leaving has been very difficult and I think I will always be a New Yorker at heart. I'll just have to bring the city everywhere I go.

Until next time!

South America from my iPhone

The Andes as we passed into Chile
I realize right now my blog is very SA-centric. Given that the places we went are so wonderful I have TONS I want to share; also, I have not had time to actually post my other artistic endeavors. Final paintings, projects, and photos are soon to come. AND some of the backlogged posts that I have been delinquent with. After graduation (EEK!) and moving back to Arizona (DOUBLE EEK!) I will be able to focus more on photographing my work to post.

Bariloche blue skies
In the meantime, here are the best photos I took while in SA with my simple iPhone 4. Sometimes the quality really amazes me. And, the selfie potential is just endless!

Buenos Aires (Part II)

We ended our trip in Buenos Aires, again. We went to Plaza de Mayo (where a huge strike had just occurred). Politically and architecturally this city center was fascinating. We also went to the Lujan Zoo (on my bucket list). It was far more sad than I thought it would be. I left with very mixed feelings.

Buenos Aires (Part I)

The past 10 days I have been in South America visiting my sister who is studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was an amazing trip. The landscape and culture are like nothing else.

My next few posts are going to be dedicated to this trip. I don't really know the best way to organize everything since I took over 700 photos! But I suppose I'll do it by each leg of the trip.

We started in Buenos Aires so these are my photos from that first bit. We went to the Cemetario Recoletta, La Boca, and Palermo Soho.

Vignettes

I've always loved people's spaces. The things they have in their rooms are so indicative of who they are. As my friend Adam so perfectly documents in his webseries "Spacebook" people's rooms become museums exhibiting artifacts of their lives.

Since I am going to be leaving Third North and New York City soon (which is so scary!) I thought posting the vignettes, my mini-spaces, would be nice.

(PS I'm going to be in Argentina and Chile for 10 days! Check out my Instagram for updates!)

December, January, and February

These past three months I haven't posted much. Millions of excuses come to mind when this happens but perhaps they shouldn't be mentioned. Nonetheless, I have had some favorite posts in the past three. And I should be posting more. Thank you for looking (and reading my mindless ramblings).
One of my favorite portraits of my sister from this post.

This Tilly is from the same but check out her video!

A cool Instagram (should I do more of these kinds of posts?)

My sister and I recreated old photos for my mom for Christmas

More photographic adventures (this time they were disposable!)

And a post on my hands (painting updates to be coming soon)

Pentax Trials (Lots of Errors)

I'm using my mom's Pentax (that's been all over the world) for a photography class I'm taking next semester. I've been doing some tests while I've been home-- some have ended up quite nice and the others are pretty bad. These are the ones I really love!
