Christmas Re-creations

For Christmas my sister and I decided to re-create old photos from our childhood and from our mother's. We came up with some fun ones! We tried going for an "urban" spin.

Recap of October

I can't believe it's already November and I'm almost done with this semester. Time is flying by. These are some of the posts or pieces I liked from October!
My octopus still life that changed so drastically from this point. I'm still negotiating with a buyer!

From a winter trip to Sedona-- those oranges and reds are just too lovely! Prospect Park is the same color right now.
My beautiful sister from an excursion to one of my favorite neighborhoods. She's the best model!

My action photos in preparation for my action painting (the crit is today!).

The Farm-- my cardboard sculpture. This is one of the minis.

My gigantic wire arm that is still a work in progress.

Copy Painting

I've been very delinquent with this bloggy. I'm oh so busy and my apartment has pretty bad lighting so I never seem to be taking decent photos of my paintings. BUT here is a nice (ish) photo of my copy painting. I like to think I'd make Georgia proud.

Recap of September

A wee bit late, but here are some of my favorite posts from September. I can't believe it's already October!

My roommate Cassie when we were playing with shadows on our roof back when it was nice and cold.

A work in progress painting of some lovely flowers I saw at the High Line.

Some abstraction work that I've started doing in my free time. I think I could incorporate these into my portfolio thesis.

Some rad doors in the ghost town Jerome, Arizona.

And, finally my copy painting. I think I did Georgia justice.

Copy Painting: I'M DONE!

This painting didn't take too long considering but it was quite the mental strain. Georgia's lines are so clean and precise while still embodying movement and emotion. I read that she only used one fine layer of paint. This all made copying her style very difficult. But, I'm done!

When I finally take it home I'll post a nice close-up. For now I like how it looks with my easel in the background.

From Monday...almost done but needed highlights

Copy Painting: Part II

I'm continuing on with this copy painting and it's getting progressively more difficult as I go. Georgia knew how to make complicated painting very simple looking. I admire her greatly for that.

Copy Painting: Part I

So for this semester I think I'm going to just post progress shots of my major projects and perhaps what is happening through the long process? I don't know the best practice. But, I'll post the final piece on its own.

The beginnings of my copy! AHH OIL!

In my painting class our first assignment is to copy a masterwork. I thought about all sorts of my favorite pieces (any Van Gogh, Madame X, something by Egon Schiele).

Deer's Skull with Pedernal
Instead I chose the lovely Georgia O'Keeffe. She has such a wonderful way of capturing the arid beauty of the South West. Since I always feel a bit nostalgic about South West weather when it's this hot, she seemed perfect!

Composition with Three Male Figures AKA Self Portrait Egon Schiele

Happy Red White and Blue

Happy Fourth of July! I wanted to do something a bit patriotic for the occasion BUT I didn't have any paintings that were red, white, and blue-- and most of my paintings seem to be a bit morbid. So instead, I looked through my photos and found a fun selection of photos with red, white, and blue.

My friends and I are going to watch the fireworks from my roof. Enjoy the day off and the barbecues!
